ABOVE LEFT: Here is an example of the color of the metal that is required in order to forge weld the pieces together. The trick is to hit it SOFTLY, so as not to knock out the melted metal and flux, then gradually hit it harder as it cools, in order to shape it.
ABOVE RIGHT: Here we see the weld finished and the eye of the grappling hook is solid.
